Getting Started

• For Digitech at Tiki you need an email address.
• Memorise this address http://tikiict11.wikispaces.com as all your work will be uploaded here so you should never ask "What are we doing today Miss?"
• If you haven't already done so, please complete the below:

1 - Create a Gmail Account: If you have an email address already, go down to # 3

• Go to Google and click Sign In
• Click Create an Account
• Complete the Firstname and Lastname (this shows up as the Display Name)
• Choose a username and enter your password twice - it must be at least 8 characters long
• Put your birthday, gender and your mobile number - this is for security purposes
• Type the text you see
• Tick 'I agree to Google Terms'
• Click Next Step - if any details are incorrect it will show up red. Fix these, retype the text you see and click Next Step again.
• Click Get Started

2 - Send a Test Email:

• Click on Gmail in the top right
• x out of any Welcome screen or tour.
• Click on Compose
• Type who you're sending the email to, e.g. lilah_edmonds@hotmail.com in the To: box
• Type your Subject: i.e. what the email is about.
• Click in the white space below and type the content of your email. Sign off with your name
• Click Send

3 - Saving Your Files:

• Read this information about managing your files
• Open your student home drive and create a new folder for each of your 5 subjects - Right click New Folder
• What should you name your folders?
• View the course outline above - this shows what you will work on this year.
• Go into your Digitech folder and create a folder for each standard. Make an abbreviated name no longer than 10 characters e.g. Movie; Report; External; Another suggestion is the Achievement Standard Number.

4 - Take a Screen Shot:

• Open your student home drive so you can see the digitech folders you created - Right click on Start and click on Open Windows Explorer. On the left click on Computer and then your home drive.
• Click on Start and type Snipping. - You can search for any program on your computer by using this Search.
• Click on Snipping Tool - Use this program to take shots of your screen. It creates an image/picture you can use in any document.
• With your mouse, draw a square around your folders so it takes a screenshot
• Click on the disk - Save Snip
• Where should you save this file? On your student home drive, inside Digitech.
• What should you call this file? Call it a name that accurately describes what it is.
• Make sure the type is JPEG and click Save

5 - Send an Email with an Attachment:

• Follow step 3 above if you don't know how to create an email
• The To field should have lilah_edmonds@hotmail.com
• The subject should say - My Student Drive
• Answer the following questions in your email before clicking Send:
  1. The reason I am in digitech is because...
  2. if I were to rate my confidence, I would say I am...
  3. Total credits I aim to get are...
  4. Three things I might find distracting are....
  5. Suggestions I hope we can work on this year are...
  6. An interest/talent/hobby/like I'd enjoy focussing my digitech assignments on is...
• Click the paper clip, go to your student drive, find the screenshot jpg you did at #4 above. Double click on the screenshot. This should attach the screenshot to your email.
• Click Send..

6 - Connect to a printer:

• Click on the Start menu and type \\thsdc
• Double click on the Library copier and X out of all Windows - all students are given $5 credit at the beginning of the year. Once this runs out, you will need to bring $5 into the office for more printing credit.

7 - Interest/Talent/Hobby/Like Slideshow:

• You are going to design a 5 slide power point (ppt) that show cases ONE "Interest", "talent", "hobby" or "like" you have. It could be a label e.g. Ripcurl; A tattoo artist; Skating; An Actor; A sport; An X-box Game;
• Choose wisely because this will become your THEME for your years work including your first standard using Movie Maker.
